The closest ski slopes to Beirut, with mountain chalets for snowy weekends and cool summer escapes.
Zaarour is a mountain area in the upper Metn, about 45 km from Beirut, or around an hour by car.
Its ski area is the closest to the capital, so families can drive up for a day on the snow or spend the weekend in a chalet nearby. The slopes suit beginners and children as well as regular skiers.
Outside the ski season, the area is used for hiking, mountain biking and quiet weekends in the fresh air, with views over the pine-covered hills of the Metn.
A chalet in Zaarour suits families and groups of friends who want the mountains without a long drive. Best time to go: December to March for snow, June to September for cool weekends.
