Tyre (Sour)

Long sandy beaches, a nature reserve on the coast and Roman ruins in one of the oldest cities in the world.

Tyre is on the southern coast, about 80 km from Beirut, or around an hour and a half by car.

It has some of the longest sandy beaches in Lebanon, much of them inside the Tyre Coast Nature Reserve, where the water is clear and the summer beach huts serve grilled fish and cold drinks.

The city is one of the oldest in the world. Its Roman remains, including a large hippodrome and colonnaded streets by the sea, are listed by UNESCO. The old fishing port and the souks are good for an evening walk.

A chalet or guesthouse in Tyre suits families and groups who want long beach days in summer. Best time to go: May to October.
