Kaslik & Jounieh
Beach resorts with chalets on Jounieh bay, 20 minutes from Beirut, with the Harissa cable car and plenty of restaurants nearby.
Kaslik and Jounieh line the bay of Jounieh, about 20 km north of Beirut. Without traffic you can be on the beach in 20 to 30 minutes, which makes this the easiest seaside escape from the capital.
The coast here is lined with beach resorts, many of them with chalets that owners rent by the night, the weekend or the season. Most resorts have pools, a private beach and a restaurant on site, which makes them popular with families with young children.
Above the bay, the cable car (téléférique) climbs to Harissa and the shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, with one of the best views of the coast. Kaslik's streets are full of restaurants, cafés and shops, and the old souk of Jounieh is a short drive away.
Best time to go: May to October. Because it is so close to Beirut, Kaslik and Jounieh also work for a one-night break or a day-use pool day all year round.
